more on re-translation.
I was thinking a belt, but as i was going, it sort of turned into a real cover.
so i was thinking making this into a box. with the opening on the top.
I was going for the classic hard cover novel cover kind of feel.
Here are more options for the front cover:
so, I re-worked on the color and I also add the little caption for the language.

language
explored on the subject of identity:
who is the artist? What is our image of them? What do we remember of them?
Does the words they say made up as who they are? Or would we ever know who they really are?Or is their existence only based on our fascination of them?
the disjointed image and the phrase makes the viewer to guess who the artists are, and by looking at the quote they said alone with the image (or just the image or just the quote), one might recognized the artist.
But, the viewer will only have "their idea" or their memory of who the artists are. So, the image of the artist is not from the image, or the quote......
it's a combination of the information that's given(quote and image), and the viewer's memory of them - its all made up in the viewer's mind.
the artists doesn't exist.
so there for, the image doesn't exist, the language doesn't exist.

water.
“It’s just what we’ve all suspected - pure, ’straight from the mountains’ bottled water is not so pure after all.
*EWG released an industry-rattling report that reveals the dirty truth about bottled water.
We tested 10 brands and found an alarming array of contaminants, including cancer-causing byproducts of chlorination, fertiliser residue, industrial solvents and even caffeine.
*The Environmental Working Group is a non-profit, non-partisan research organisation dedicated to using the power of information to protect human health and the environment. The EWG Action Fund is a legislative advocacy organisation that uses EWG research to promote healthy and sustainable policies.

re-work - PSA poster
So I recently have learned the information about bottled water and its problem on community, society, environmental and health issues.
But here, I want to just focus my PSA poster on the issue of "is bottled water safer to drink than tab water?"
On one easy fact, the government rules of bottled water are actually less strict than tap water rules. Which means, generally speaking, especially in the city of New York, your tap water is actually safer to drink than the bottled water you buy.
and on a section of a post on the NRDC(natural resources defense council)website,
it mentioned something pretty scary:
the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) or FDA's rues exempt many forms of what most of us would consider bottled water from its definition of "bottled water," and therefore, according to FDA, exempts them from all of FDA's specific standards for bottled water testing and contamination. If the product is declared on the bottle ingredient label simply as "water," or as "carbonated water," "disinfected water," "filtered water," "seltzer water," "soda water," "sparkling water," or "tonic water," it is not considered "bottled water" by FDA.
FDA says it exempted these waters because they are "not understood by the public to be bottled water."
What is covered by FDA's rules? FDA says it regulates products labeled as "spring water," "mineral water," "drinking water," "bottled water," "purified water," "distilled water," and a few other specific categories of bottled water.
SO-
the issue I want to focus on is that, in new york, the tap water is actually safer to drink than many of the bottled water you can buy, because it is not as strictly regulated than the tap water.
maybe with a tag line saying something simple like "where's your water coming from?" with a drawing of a bottled water bottle.

re-translation.
re-translation.
the language project.
so the idea is miss-re-translation.
first, an image,
second, in english,(always in blue background)
third, in chinese(always in pink background)
forth, in japanese(always in green background)
seventh, back in english(always in blue background)
end with, another image.
they will be in the form of french folds.
so they can be open and stand on the table, and one will be able to see the whole translation process.
and they will be a set of them.
hold together with a belt. which will explain what they are.
so what should i do with the back?
should the back be another set?
or just make it black?

re-working.
so, im re-working my projects, as well as doing the new ones.
here's a re-worked "household item" design.
so im looking at these beauty products and re think about the packaging
and where my type should live.
So, since its a anti-aging eraser,
I definitely want a black and white, clean look.
with some sort of clear package.then, I really like this comme des garsons perfume package,
when its a bottle of perfume
"packaged "or rather, sealed in this vacuumed clear plastic sheets.
to achieve that, I actually have this at home.
I bought months ago when I saw it and thought I would make something out of it some day.
so, here's what I come up with, imagine the middle rectangle is the eraser,
and the type is just layering on the plastic.
Im thinking of just print it on acid tape or clear sticker.
I think the bigger one looks nicer with the space on the right.
yes? no?

language cross over with technology
so I have been playing with this not so new data Matrix code technology.
its also known as the 2D barcode. That contains more information than just numbers that a traditional would contains.
A basic 2D barcode can easily contain alphabetical information, such as sentences, personal information or web page links. Anything that contains words.
This technology is already widely used in Japan. When everyone's phone has a camera, and all the phones have the software that can de-code the 2D code.
so phones can take a picture of the graphic, and, detect what's message in the 2D code.
There, you can imagine, what the possibility this thing can be.
People in Japan use this on their business cards, so you will never have to type all the information on the card, but as simple as just take a picture of the "graphic" then, your phone will de-code the information, here, will possible be all the contact information about that person(name, job title, phone numbers, webpage, e-mail....)
then, just as simple as save it.
This technology also use as coupons on posters and flyers all over japan....and many many more places.
there, so.....
I think I want to do something about this technology.
im thinking:
one:
it would be pure graphic codes. and there will be messages contain in it.
two:
the code graphic with regular type altogether.
Now, the real problem is...to pick a topic and work on it with the technology.....

This is great.
so my laptop was waaaay dead since last week and I had to wait a whole two days (because all the appointment were booked all over nyc. ) to take it to the apple store to have them take a look at it...possibly, fix it.
anyways, it turned out was a bad RAM. and the best thing is, i did not get the apple care. So I had a choice of getting a 2GB ram for $150 at the apple store or venture to somewhere else and look for cheaper ones......
so i stumbled across this website MemorySuppliers.com
despite the bad layout and the cheesy girl with the camera....
the price for their "memories" are surprisingly CHEAP!!!
THE RAM i got from their website was marked for only $39.00
with a lifetime replacement warranty.....
My order is shipped...and I shall soon get my ram.
I hate my computer is running slower now since it only has 1GB ram....but its definitely worth the wait....

PSA poster project.
PSA on
NO.1:
save the garment district.
mainly, that affordable spaces for fabric merchants, suppliers and fashion brands are "disappearing" (so to speak) and that the fashion community needs to step up and do something.
so.....their idea is to start a campaign with tee shirts printed with "SAVE THE GARMENT CENTER" to be distributed on designers' web sites or at their runway shows.
and I think from here I can do a poster of PSA on (not the t-shirt) having people's awareness on saving the garment district.
official website:
Save the Garment Distict
-----------------------------------------------------
NO.2
When I was riding the subway home the other day, a subway ad "SUBTALK " (power by the new york city subway) caught my eyes.
it reads
"In 1986, the subway and bus fare was $1. Thats $1.89 in 2008 dollars. Today, 30-day unlimited ride metro card brings the ease down to $1.17. Believe it.
it sure brought the instant interest to me....since being a poor student and always cutting corners to buy that next it designer item.....haha. j/k
but , yeah, I would wanna do something that's to do with things about the subway system that people dont really know....and make the design better than what we have out.
official website:
